Call of Duty 2025: Rumored PS4 and Xbox One Release Sparks Debate

Whispers from reputable sources indicate that Call of Duty 2025 might still be in the works for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This follows the surprising release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on these older consoles, leaving many to wonder about Activision's commitment to aging hardware. With both consoles exceeding a decade in age, the potential cross-gen release has ignited discussions within the gaming community.

The prolonged support for last-gen consoles comes as Sony recently unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, amidst reports of slower-than-expected sales.  Some speculate that the $700 price tag may be a contributing factor. Meanwhile, some developers and publishers continue to support the PS4 and Xbox One, even as the current generation advances.

Insider CharlieIntel reports that Call of Duty 2025, heavily speculated to be a Black Ops 2 sequel, may still be under development for PS4 and Xbox One. They also suggest that supporting these older consoles could explain Warzone's limitations in rotating large-scale maps, unlike other Battle Royale games like Apex Legends. While Warzone does receive new maps, they often replace existing ones, with smaller Resurgence maps rotating more frequently.

Although Activision hasn't officially announced the next Call of Duty title, rumors about a Black Ops 2 sequel have been circulating. Some speculate that the game's multiplayer maps will be remastered from the 2012 title, while also incorporating new features like Treyarch's omnidirectional movement system and a potential wall-jumping mechanic.

A planned new Warzone map codenamed Avalon, reportedly featuring locations from Black Ops 6's multiplayer, may have been shelved or postponed.  Instead, Activision has confirmed the return of the original Verdansk map, potentially in Season 3.
