Since its October 2024 launch, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been plagued by performance problems and bugs, particularly on PC. From blue screen crashes to frame rate instability, issues continue to surface despite developer efforts. One recently discovered problem involves a significant drop in frames per second (FPS) caused by an abundance of broken glass in multiplayer matches.
Following a recent Black Ops 6 and Warzone update, the official Call of Duty Updates Twitter account confirmed a rise in blue screen errors for PC users. Treyarch Studios is investigating the problem, adding to the list of issues affecting PC players since the game's release. While Activision celebrated Black Ops 6 as the biggest launch in Call of Duty history, the PC player base on platforms like Steam has dwindled significantly. This decline is suspected to be related to persistent performance problems and the prevalence of hackers.
Despite the improvements and bug fixes introduced with the Season 2 update, Black Ops 6 continues to grapple with performance issues. Reddit user WDrew000 highlighted the impact of broken glass on FPS, showcasing a drop from 150-180 FPS to as low as 60 FPS after breaking all the glass on the new Bounty map. While this specific scenario might not be frequent, the fact that such a drastic performance dip is possible raises concerns.
Console players have also reported similar issues. One PlayStation 5 user noted a heavy reliance on FSR upscaling in 120FPS mode when excessive glass is broken. The Bounty map, while not the only one with breakable glass, appears to be a focal point for performance complaints, with other players reporting significant FPS drops.
These ongoing issues are just the latest in a string of complaints from the Black Ops 6 community. Activision has acknowledged these concerns and outlined planned improvements with the Season 2 update and beyond. Addressing the rampant cheating in Black Ops 6 and Warzone Ranked Play is a high priority, with enhancements to the Ricochet anti-cheat system and the introduction of the option to disable cross-play on consoles for Ranked mode.
