Treyarch has reintroduced the popular Gunfight mode to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, much to the delight of a segment of the community. Originally featured in Modern Warfare (2019), Gunfight now joins the diverse range of game modes available in Black Ops 6.
Activision has consistently expanded the Call of Duty franchise with new game modes since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Over the years, modes like Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Infection, and Prop Hunt have become staples across various Call of Duty titles. Currently in Season 1, Black Ops 6 continues to receive fresh content from Treyarch. As player numbers have declined since launch, the addition of new content, like Gunfight, could help retain the remaining player base and potentially entice lapsed players back.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has also seen success with its Directed Zombies mode, further demonstrating the developers' commitment to providing varied gameplay experiences.
A recent Reddit post showcasing Gunfight as a Featured game mode on the Warhead map generated considerable excitement. Gunfight pits two teams of one or two players against each other in round-based matches with randomized loadouts. This eliminates custom Black Ops 6 loadouts, fostering a more competitive environment where players can truly test their skills.
The return of Gunfight has been met with enthusiasm, with many players expressing hope for the return of other classic modes like Demolition, Gun Game, and Ground War. The inclusion of existing maps like Warhead in Gunfight suggests potential overlap with familiar locations. Given Black Ops 6's focus on smaller maps, locations like Babylon, Stakeout, Subsonic, and Nuketown could also be incorporated into the Gunfight rotation. Larger maps such as Lowtown, Skyline, Vault, and Vorkuta may be less suitable for this fast-paced mode.
Gunfight, accommodating two to four players, may offer respite from the game's skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) system, allowing pre-made groups to compete together. With Treyarch's ongoing updates, the potential for more fan-favorite game modes to return to Black Ops 6 remains high.
