Activision has quietly extended the Squid Game crossover event in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone. Originally slated to end on January 24th, the event will now run until the launch of Season 2 on January 28th. This provides players with a few extra days to unlock remaining rewards from the event pass, including the controversial Front Man operator skin.
The event, which began on January 3rd, introduced a range of cosmetic items, game modes inspired by the hit Netflix series, weapon blueprints, and more. However, the event's launch was met with some controversy surrounding the pricing of skins and the introduction of a new event pass, which some players felt was excessive given the existing microtransactions and battle passes within the game.
The upcoming Season 2 maps for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 have also been unveiled, evoking nostalgia for some of the best map designs from Black Ops 2 (BO2).
While Activision hasn't formally announced the event's extension, the in-game event tab confirms the new end date. Earning all the rewards in the Squid Game event pass requires accumulating 356,000 XP, a feat many players have already accomplished. This extension caters to those who haven't yet completed the pass and want to acquire all available rewards, including operator skins like the Front Man.
In addition to the event pass, Activision released several store bundles throughout the event, featuring iconic characters from the show like the Pink Guards, Masked VIPs, and Young-Hee. The availability of these bundles beyond the event's extension remains unclear. The Front Man, Player 115, and Player 006 operator skins are exclusive to the event pass.
Besides unlocking rewards, the extension allows players more time to engage with the Squid Game-themed modes, such as Red Light, Green Light. The Front Man operator skin, the ultimate reward for the premium event pass, initially sparked concerns about its potential “pay-to-win” nature due to its all-black design, reminiscent of the Roze skin controversy in Modern Warfare.
